LAKE FORK WEEKLY FISHING REPORT

FROM:  J & M Guide Service

DATE:  15 – 21 February 2014

Well the boat shows are over and it was time for me to get back to work.  This week we saw the air and water temperatures start to rise.  The water temperatures climbed into the mid to upper 50’s and the Bass started to bite.   They were chasing red Rattle Traps and chartreuse and white spinner baits and chatter baits.  A few good fish were being caught on black and blue jigs with a black and blue craw used as a trailer.  We found our better fish on creek and ditch edges in 3 to 10 feet of water.  The other tip is that grass was near the edges of the ditches.   If you are using Rattles out of the box, please stop right now!  Two things you need to do; one, take the hooks off and throw them as far as you can and buy good quality hooks and sharpen them.  Second, if you insist on using the original hooks, you “must” sharpen them two or three times a day, especially if you are running them over grass.  With the quality of fish that we have here at Lake Fork you don’t want to lose a trophy because of a dull hook.  One last thing, if you catch a large Bass like I did on Wednesday, make sure you take a minute and check your line and always re-tie.

The White Bass fishing was slow but they could be caught on a 1/8 ounce Crappie jig tipped with a minnow.  They were being caught both 515 bridges.  A few were being caught on the 514 bridge.  Use a chartreuse and blue jig!

The Crappie were also very slow.  What few that being caught were being caught were being caught on 1/16 Crappie jigs (chartreuse/blue) tipped with a small minnow.  They also were being caught on the 515 and 514 bridges.

No report on Catfish this week.

Lake Fork Marina has a good selection of spinner baits and chatter baits for you Bass fishermen.  They also have a good selection of Crappie jigs and have plenty of minnows.

Here at J & M guide Service we still have a few opens for guided bass trips during spawn (March & April).  Give us a call here, Toll Free: 1-888-454-7037 or e-mail us at: bassmr@geusnet.com   Have a great week and if you are on the water with the big motor running make sure you wear your life vest.
